Sorbus hupehensis is a deciduous ornamental tree with a compact crown with blue-green pinnate leaves that turn vivid red and orange in autumn.  In addition, it has pink berries, which eventually turn white and hang in large clusters.

Description
Hupeh orginates from Western China and was intorduced to Britain in 1910 by Earnest Wilson, a renowned plant collector.  This classic Rowan has an upright form with ascending branches, winning the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.  It's berries start out white, turning pink and then maturing to white again.  In May-June, masses of small soft pink flowers appear that contrast beautifully with its delicate green-blue pinnate foliage.  As autumn approaches, the leaves burst into firey shades of red, making this a spectacular tree for year-round seasonal interest.

Planting Position
Rowans are best planted in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny sContainer.  The are tolerant of different soils and will grow on clay.  For best autumn foliage, grow in acidic soil as opposed to alkaline.

Attributes
A highly attractive tree that will bring joy to any garden throughout all the seasons.  Its beautful flowers appearing in May/June attract bees and other pollinators followed by clusters of white berries in autumn that last well into the winter due to the birds eating the more colourful berries first.
