Description

Prunus laurocerasus 'Novita' is a hardy, fast-growing laurel that can be planted in most situations, including drier areas, to form a dense, bushy hedge. A low-maintenance evergreen hedge plant with very glossy mid-dark green foliage that will reflect light making it ideal for darker areas of the garden. White clusters of flowers appear in Spring which are attractive to pollinating bees and other insects and these are sometimes followed by glossy black berries.

 

Planting Position
Suitable for most soil types and locations. Does well in well drained soils and is happy in full sun or partial shade. Novita is a very hardy laurel variety and will happily cope with drier areas or colder climates.

 

Attributes

The leaves of Novita are slightly more slender than Rotundifolia but are a very glossy green. Small white fragrant flowers in spring which are occassionaly followed by glossy black fruit. The flowers attract bees and butterflies. The fruit are eaten by birds. The leaves and bark are poisonous, so avoid planting a laurel hedge next to livestock.
