This Ninebark displays clusters of pink-tinted white flowers on arching branches in late spring, attracting bees, birds and butterflies. The Physocarpus opulifolius' Diablo' has broadly ovate, rich purple foliage from spring before the leaves fall in autumn. When plants reach maturity, the bark peels away in layers, creating another layer of interest in the winter.
Planting Position
This 'Diablo' is a beautiful addition, suitable for beds and borders and can be used for cottage and informal gardens. The Ninebark will do well in exposed and sheltered areas in full sun to partial shade and in moist but well-drained soil.
Care and Maintenance
The Physocarpus opulifolius' Diablo' requires little maintenance. Once established, cut back one in four of the oldest stems to their base after flowering.
