Description

Red Pear originated from the National Perry Pear Collection in Malvern during the 16th century. Red Pear is an old popular variety. Produces heavy crops of low acid and low tannin perry pears of good average quality. Keeps well after harvest. Grown on a wide commercial scale throughout Herefordshire and Worcestershire for over 400 years.

 

Planting Position

Perry pear trees are planted exactly the same as other pear trees. They prefer to grown on deep loam soils if they are to grow to their full potential. However they will also grow well on sandy and clay soils. Some are of the opinion that the quality of the pears is better when grown on light soil.

 

Attributes
Remember that Perry Pears are not for eating! They are only used for making Perry, which is different to pear cider which uses edible pears.
