A new dessert/culinary gooseberry that produces large, deliciously sweet red fruits that can be eaten straight from the bush.

Pick: Late July
Use: Eating & Cooking

Description
Bred in Canada, this hardy gooseberry really is a great all-rounder. Not only does it produce large, attractive burgandy berries, they're so sweet, they can be eaten straight from the bush. The fruits form on long spines and have very few thorns. Its foliage is green that turns a dark red during autumn and is mildew resistant.

Planting Position
This gooseberry makes a very good fruit to grow in a container, especially to take up less space in a smaller garden. It's very easy to grow and is tolerant of many different types of soil but be sure to avoid water-logged areas. Like most fruits, plant in a sunny spot. These are a great hit with birds, so be sure to cover them if planning on eating or cooking them!

Attributes
There is very little the UK weather can throw at this hardy variety which will stop it producing a decent crop. Although there aren't masses of berries, the quality of them are exceptional, and it's always nice picking fruit from a spine-free bush!
