Flowers: Inconsequential green catkins from April to May.
Foliage: Dark green serrated leaves appear in spring which turn golden and orange in autumn.
Mature Height & Spread: Medium-size tree with a compact, narrow pyramidal crown that becomes narrow ovoid when mature. Thicker, darker foliage than some cultivars. Grows to around 10m when mature.
Soil Preference: Adaptable to various soil types, but prefers well-drained soil.
Plant Interest: Great for avenue planting but equally good in smaller spaces for an architectural value.
Planting: Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and enrich with organic matter. Space trees at least 3-4 metres apart or if a tighter screen required, can be planted as close as 1.8-2m. Water generously during the first year.
Pruning: If growing as a screen or hedge, once planted, allow the trees to grow to required height and then remove the leader, which will encourage it to bush out.
