Description
This is a somewhat hardy and frost tolerant dessert apple, crossed from the Worcester Pearmain and James Grieve cultivars. The apples emerge a yellow green colour and ripen to a bright red. The sweet red fruit are generally ready for harvest early September. It can be expected to reach a mature height of 4m-5m in 5-10 years.
Planting Position
This cultivar will develop best is a sheltered sContainer with full sun despite its tolerance to frost. It requires freely draining soil and prefers clay soils although it can also be grown on sand or loam.
Attributes
Katy belongs to pollination group 3 however it is not self fertile and as such will require a pollination partner from groups 2, 3 or 4. Most white blossoming crab apples would also make a good selection for pollination.
