• Pretty alternative to cherry laurel

• Evergreen screening

• Interest for wildlife

• Can be maintained at 3-5m

Description
This large, evergreen hedging is rather ornamental in appearance and an excellent choice for hedging although it also makes an attractive large shrub when established as an individual.

Planting Position
The Portuguese laurel will tolerate full sun or partial shade and is a hardy plant. It copes well with exposure and any planting aspect. Suitable for all soil types and pH the Portuguese laurel like most trees benefits from moist but well drained locations.

Recommended Planting Density
7.5L Container (60-80cm) : 2-3 plants per metre

Attributes
The leaves are a glossy, dark green and ovate with a finely toothed edge and long tip. The fragrant, creamy white flowers develop on racemes and later develop into red berries that mature to a purplish-black. Given the dense habit of this plant it is ideal for nesting wildlife. It should be noted that the leaves and fruit may be harmful if ingested.
