Description
A fast-growing deciduous broadleaf tree native to the UK and most of Europe, also known as Quaking Aspen. It is a beautiful, ornamental tree with shimmering foliage - rounded leaves, which are bronze when young, turn yellow in the autumn. When mature, it can reach heights of 25m.
Planting Position
Suitable for most locations and soil types. Can handle exposed sites and is very hardy. Best grown in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun, but can handle waterlogged soil.
Attributes
The leaves are dark green with large teeth. Young leaves are bronze in colour, turning green, then vibrant yellow before falling in autumn. The Aspen is dioecious, which means that the male and female catkins are on separate trees in March/April. Once pollinated, the female catkins release tiny fluffy seeds in the summer. Aspen is attractive to all types of wildlife, from insects to birds and even beavers.

Populus tremula | Aspen | Bare Root
Whilst smaller trees are often cheaper, easier to handle and more forgiving in terms of their level of care required, a more mature tree can provide a fantastic instant impact if you are able to care for it over the first few years.
