Description
Dog Rose is a fast growing shrub with green leaves and spiny branches that enable it to weave in amongst other shrubs. It is a native shrub, commonly found in hedgerows alongside other native species and on the edges of woodlands, especially in heavy soil. Attractive faintly scented pink flowers are followed by striking red hips, giving it a long season of colour and interest.
Planting Position
Suitable for most locations and soil types. Can handle exposed sites and is very hardy. Best grown in fertile, moist but well drained soil and in full sun.

Foliage & Flowers
Mid green leaves, with large pink or white flowers with 5 petals. The fruits are oval hips which are a brilliant red in colour, they can form in small clusters.

Uses
The rose hips were traditionally used to make syrups and the hairs inside the hips are said to have been extracted to make itching powder.
