Munstead Lavender is a classic, compact English lavender loved for its fragrant, silvery-green foliage and abundant spikes of violet-blue flowers. Highly versatile and easy to grow, it brings timeless charm to borders, pots, and pathways while attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators all summer long.

Description

Munstead Lavender thrives in a sunny, sheltered position and is perfect for well-drained soils. It loves poor to moderately fertile ground and will struggle in heavy clay or waterlogged areas. For best results, plant it where it can bask in full sun and where air circulation is good — ideal along paths, in Mediterranean-style borders, or as part of a sensory garden. Its beautiful scent, soft texture, and neat habit make it a garden essential.

Planting & Care

When planting, choose a well-drained spot and, if necessary, improve drainage by adding grit or planting on a slight mound. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a deep root system, but be careful not to overwater. Once settled, Munstead Lavender is very low maintenance, needing only a light trim after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth. Avoid cutting into old wood. Feed sparingly — too much fertilizer can cause floppy, leggy growth. In colder areas, a little winter protection may help newly planted lavender through its first year.
