We have selected a range of mainly native species for this mixed hedging pack which are believed to be harmless to horses if nibbled. A fantastic value mixed hedging pack containing up to 6 native species, predominantly hawthorn but with other species bringing in interest in colour, texture and wildlife interest. The plants would be best if well protected from horses until fully established.
Description A mixed hedging pack is ideal for areas where horses may be grazing. This horse-friendly hedge pack contains a high proportion of hawthorn hedging backed up with a further good quantity of horse-friendly hedge species. These are balanced with a few select species to encourage wildlife through their diversity of berries, flowers and fruits.
What's included? 50% of the pack will be Hawthorn. The remainder will be a selection of the following native species: Hazel Dogwood Guelder Rose Crab Apple Wayfaring Tree Rosa Rugosa
Size Growth Rate: Average 20-40cm a year Final height: 4-5 m
Planting We recommend planting approximately 5 plants per metre in a double staggered row to give a good hedge. To give you an indication of the quantity of plants required:
Plant Protection It is advisable to protect the young plants from horses whilst they are getting established. In addition, if there are lots of rabbits in the area, it might be worth considering protecting your plants with spiral guards. See here for more plant protection option.
