Planting Position
As a sturdy evergreen shrub, Oleaster is ideal for shady, dry, seaside or windy sites but not cold, wet or very alkaline locations.
Attributes
Oleaster hedges really stand out for their ovulate dark green leaves that have a silvery underside and tiny silver dots on the leaves, that look shimmery when blown in the wind. In early spring as opposed to autumn, small orange berries appear that are edible and best left for the birds to enjoy! This hedge then surprises you in autumn with fragrant, bell-shaped , creamy white flowers.
Oleaster is perfect for creating and attractive border filled with flowers, berries and fragrance, providing year-round interest. Due to the hardiness of this shrub, its is well suited to costal gardens as it can tolerate salty spray and strong sea winds where most other plants would not survive.
