Davidia involucrata 'handkerchief tree' is a medium-sized deciduous tree with heart-shaped, bright green leaves turning yellow-orange in autumn. The tree gets its common name from its unique pinched handkerchief-like blossoms and yellow to purple flower heads, appearing in spring. In late summer, small greenish-brown, pear-shaped fruits appear, making this an excellent tree for seasonal interest.
The Davidia involucrata tree will develop a broadly pyramidal shape and grow to 12m/39ft tall and 8m/26ft wide (after 20-50 years), making this an excellent ornamental tree for a variety of gardens.

Davidia involucrata 'handkerchief tree' will thrive in most soils, although it prefers well-drained, moist, moderately fertile soil with full sun or partial shade positioning.
