Overview
Cercis canadensis 'Golden Falls' is a unique, multi-branching, weeping ornamental tree providing multiple seasons of interest. This lovely redbud tree has a very narrow shape when mature making it ideal for a small space in the garden.
Description
This small, low-maintenance tree displays clusters of pretty, pea-like, pink flowers in May, attracting bees and butterflies into your outside space, followed by an eruption of heart-shaped, golden-green foliage in spring. After the leaves have fallen in autumn, it reveals an architecturally interesting shape throughout the winter season.
The Cercis canadensis will make an excellent addition to your garden and can often be seen in small or large gardens, avenues and driveways. The Golden Falls grows well in most conditions but prefers full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. The ultimate height is 3m with a 1.2m spread.
Planting & After Care
Ensure to plant in its final location whilst still young, as the Cercis canadensis resents being transplanted. During planting, add plenty of well-rotted compost in the planting hole and stake firmly.
They require minimal pruning, and removing broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter is best.
