Description

The Garden plum develops into a rounded tree suitable for most settings. This particular cultivar produces the typical, 5 petalled white flowers in the spring, giving way to dark red and purple fruit later in the season. The green leaves are simple and ovate. Avalon is partially self fertile, and classified as pollination group 2. As with many of the fruit trees, fruit production can be improved by planting a suitable pollination partner is close proximity. Its ultimate height range is between 2m-4m with a similar spread, dependant on root stock, and it will reach its full height in 5-10 years.

Planting Position

This small, bushy fruit tree is suitable for most settings and requires minimal maintenance. It is best situated in a sheltered sContainer, with a south or west facing aspect, and will need full sun to be at its best in terms of fruit production. It prefers loam or sandy soils with an acidic or neutral pH.

Attributes

In addition to the attractive and fragrant flowers and fruit, that attract a wide variety of wildlife, this tree has good disease resistance and as such is a popular choice among the plum trees.
