The Malus 'Rudolph' crab apple is a small ornamental tree with ever-changing foliar colour and vibrant pink flowers.
Description
This upright form of Crab apple is a small hardy specimen with a wide spectrum of colouring. The leaves, elliptical with a spine-like tip, emerge a coppery red in colour and gradually change to a bronze-green as the season progresses, climaxing in yellow. The flowers are a vibrant pink, forming characteristic dense clusters. The fruit is red and slightly elongated. Reaching 5-7m in maturity, this is another Crab apple well suited to any planting situation, although, as with any fruiting trees planting adjacent to public footpaths is not recommended.
Planting Position
Crab apples are very versatile and will tolerate all soil types and pH, although, like most trees prefer moist but well-drained soil. They also cope well with exposure and can tolerate partial shade. This tree is commonly utilised for urban planting schemes where the verge is sufficient to contain the fruit as it falls in the autumn.

Aesthetically pleasing and environmentally beneficial, attracting a wide variety of insects and birds to feast on its nectar and fruit.

Whilst smaller trees are often cheaper, easier to handle and more forgiving in terms of their level of care required, a more mature tree can provide a fantastic instant impact if you are able to care for it over the first few years.
- Standard or Feathered?
Standard trees - have a clear stem up to a minimum of 1.8m and a well-formed head of branches.
Feathered trees - Usually has an upright central leader and side brancehs that emerge down the main stem.

Our most common sizes we offer are relatively easy to ship and plant. The measurement is the circumference of the trunk at 1m above the roots.
6-8cm girth - 2.50m to 2.75m in height
8-10cm girth - 2.75m to 3.00m in height
