Overview
Cercis canadensis var. texensis ‘Oklahoma’ is a showy, rounded, multi-branching ornamental tree providing multiple seasons of interest.
Description
This compact tree displays dramatic pea-like, rose-purple flowers for two-three weeks during spring, attracting bees and butterflies into your outside space. The flowers are followed by glossy, rounded, rich-green foliage that fades to yellow and sometimes orange and purple before the leaves fall in Autumn.
The Texas Redbud is a striking addition to any garden and can often be seen in medium to large-sized gardens. This ornamental is low maintenance and grows well in most conditions but prefers full sun to partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. The ultimate height is 8-12m with a 4-8m spread.
Planting & After Care
Ensure to plant in its final location whilst still young, as the Cercis canadensis resents being transplanted. During planting, add plenty of well-rotted compost in the planting hole and stake firmly.
They require minimal pruning, and removing broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter is best.
Size
Will grow to 6m x 4m after 10 years.
