• Graceful tree with weeping branches

• Hardy specimen

• Prefers a sunny position

• Yellow leaves in autumn

• Size after 10 years : 6m x 4m

Description
Introduced in 1867, Betula pendula 'Tristis' really is striking. A medium sized tree, reaching about 12m at maturity, with tall, graceful, pendulous twisting shoots at the end of weeping branches. The leaves are exactly the same as the classic Silver Birch along with other characteristics such as the white, peeling bark and the decorative catkins that appear during spring. This hardy tree is rather special for its unusual weeping appearance.

Planting Position
This tree needs space as well as a full sun position. It will succeed on most soils although it will not reach a maximum size in chalk soils.

Attributes
Its unusual weeping appearance makes this tree a real focal point for any large garden. It requires a lot of space to be given the full admiration it deserves.
